How does an MVP development approach help you save resources?
Done is better than perfect. We believe in this statement. When creating innovative products, we often use the MVP method to reduce costs and get the product to market as quickly as possible. We take care of the development and do the most essential things first. Then we go deeper, because there is no need to do complicated functions from the beginning. We have a specific business goal to achieve with the customer - and we do everything possible to achieve it. KOIA is not just about developing software. It is about creating valuable solutions.
What is the MVP method?
The MVP (Minimum Viable Product) method involves creating a product with the minimum number of features necessary to meet users' basic needs. Our aim is to get the product to market quickly to gather user feedback and make changes that will significantly improve the quality of the final product, and it fits the audience.
The goal is to create meaningful and valuable products by leveraging MVPs, especially for innovation projects where quick feedback from the target audience is essential. Launching a simplified version with the core features allows for gathering necessary feedback while conserving resources. This highlights the importance of user feedback in shaping the product's success.
What is it like to work in an MVP development approach?
We understand that out-of-the-box products are often an investment risk for our customers. The MVP approach minimizes this by creating the simplest product version with less investment. Only after gathering feedback, the customer decides whether to invest further and develop their solution.
This happened in the project with Inkassoregisteret, one of the Norwegian tech leaders, we are cooperating for a long time already. We created an automated debt register for the National Board of Employment and Welfare (NAV) to provide NAV employees with an integrated debt management platform to help people manage their debts more efficiently. Initially, we created a simplified version of the platform, with only the most essential features, to see if the actual implementation would solve the problems the client had in mind. The development of additional features and the visual part of the platform only took place once we were sure that the proposed form would meet the project objectives.
What are the benefits of MVP?
- Reduced risk: rapid validation of ideas, minimizing the risks associated with investing in a complete product that may not meet market expectations.
- Rapid feedback: enables rapid product adaptation to meet user needs.
- Cost optimisation: focus on critical features rather than a complete feature set that may not be needed.
- Faster time-to-market: an MVP enables speedier time-to-market, which is critical in a rapidly changing technology environment.
- Flexibility in development: make changes and improvements based on accurate data, resulting in a better end product.
- Financial savings: Focusing on key features and an iterative approach allows for more efficient budget management.
How are the main features selected?
Creating simplified, prototype versions of products is a challenge. The implementation of individual features is primarily justified by thorough market analysis, as well as the budget and time required for implementation. Before we build a prototype:
- We work with the customer to make a list of all the features they need.
- Then assess client’s value to the user, the cost of implementation and the time required to implement them.
- For the first tests, select those that are basic, critical and can be implemented quickly.
Our client's knowledge of the target audience is beneficial when developing a product prototype. Even before testing begins, you often have precious information about the habits and needs of future product users. That is why, at KOIA, the client is always involved in the project and in decision-making. We want you to understand what we do and how we create a high-quality, functional, and user-friendly product for you. Of course, we are here to help. Our experts have many years of experience and expertise. We will present you with possible solutions, and it is up to you to decide which product (MVP and complete) we will create together.
